What is cyber security

cybersecurity is the protection of your cyber assets or information system from attacks or unauthorized access that are aimed for exploitation.

it means keeping everything you do online safe, so no one steals your financial and personal information to use for their own gain.

The term 'cybersecurity' was coined in 1988 as a result of one of the first ever registered online viruses: the Morris worm.  The worm caused many computers connected to the internet at the time to slow down to the point that they were unusable.

Cybersecurity  has come to signify and other computer system; by flooding them with data form outside computers.

Common cybersecurity threats

As cyber attacks continue to increase in frequency and get sophisticated,  knowing how they function and how to stop them before they imapct you or your business is imperative. 

This can also be of great help in understanding the morning nds pf cybercriminals.

Some of the most common cybersecurity threats are:

Hacking: 

The act of exploiting vulnerabilities to gain illegal and unauthorised access to computer systems, network resources or online account; and altering its feature and data is known as hacking. 

The person who is engaged in hacking activities os called a hacker. 

Malware: 


Malware refers to various forms of harmful software such as viruses, Trojan horses,  worms, rootkit,  adware,  spyware,  ransomware and many others. 

They are designed to disrupt or danage operations in your computer

Virus and worm: 

A computer virus is software that is loaded onto users computers without their knowledge and causes annoying effects like freezing the system. Like a virus,  a worm is self-replicating standalone malware that spreads repidly on computer connected to network. 

Trojan Horse: 


A Trojan horse is a piece of malware that contains malicious or harmful code. It usually hides inside another software. The trojan horse does not replicate itself like viruses. 

Spyware & Adware:


Spyware and adware are small computer program that hide as cookie or temporary internet files. 

Ransomware : 


A ransomware is a special type of malware (malicious software) that you unknowingly download either from spam epmails, malicious websites pr peer-to-peer file sharing networks. 

Rootkit: 


A rootkit is small software designed to hide files,  registry entries or processes. This enables fraudters/hackers to access a PC without being detected. 

Phishing:


A phishing attack is a technique used by attacks to persuade users into revealing sensitive information or installing malware over an email communication. 

DDoS : 


A Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS)  attacks is types of cybersecurity  threat which targets business that offer online service through websites.

Eavesdropping :


Eavesdropping refers to the act of monitoring user communication without consent. It can be conducted on telecommunication sysyems,  emails,  instant messaging or other internet servies.
